Is the 1999 Volvo s80 a reliable and fuel efficent car?

Is the 1999 Volvo s80 a reliable and fuel efficent car? Thinking about buying one.

Thanks all!|||not only is it relliable and fuel efficient, but its one of the safest cars on the road. It also makes some good power, now you wont be burning the pavement off every light, but youll have enough power to pass those pesky little civics on the highways|||The 99 s80 had some problems, but the non turbo model wasn't as problematic. If I were looking to get an s80, I would look for 2004 and newer. With the 5 cylinder turbo engine and an aisin-warner trans. The 5 cylinder motor is extremely reliable and fuel efficient. The aisin-warner trans is just as great, volvo has used that trans for decades, Except on the 99 and up s80 with the 6 cylinder engine where they used the GM trans which is not very reliable.Hope this helps.|||1999 was the first year for the S80 model, consequently it had many, many problems. Transmission failures were very common and electrical gremlins were everywhere. Volvo couldn't even get the radio to pull in AM stations. These cars were extremely problematic and I cannot recommend buying one. As for fuel efficiency, no Volvo ever made has been a mileage champion. Please consider your choice carefully.|||(sigh) not only it s not reliable but the parts are outrageously expensive. Great prices on the Used car lot but be prepared to spend alot of money to repair this handsome car.|||I agree with Arthur. You would be buying someone else's troubles. Go to the website below and read about some of the issues with that model.
